Our story

About Florida Tile — Crafting Surfaces Since 1954

Florida Tile began with a simple belief: beautiful floors and walls should feel welcoming in everyday life. Seven decades later, we still design porcelain and ceramic collections for kitchens that host Sunday meals, hotel lobbies that greet travelers, and baths that need moisture-minded materials without cold, clinical aesthetics.

From kiln craft to North American showrooms

In 1954, early production focused on ceramic wall tile that brought color into postwar homes. Through the 1980s and 1990s, as porcelain technology matured, Florida Tile expanded into denser floor bodies with water absorption typically at or below 0.5%, helping coastal and inland projects specify surfaces that tolerate humidity without sacrificing pattern and texture.

Design teams travel to stone quarries, European ateliers, and contemporary hospitality interiors to translate global trends into collections that install cleanly under ANSI A108 guidance. That research shows up as marble-look modules with controlled shade variation, wood-look planks that avoid cupping debates after tropical storms, and mosaics that let designers punctuate showers and niches while keeping abrasion resistance and slip resistance coefficient conversations honest.

By 2024, awards such as Best of KBIS – Tile Innovation and Coverings Installation & Design recognition reflected a catalog that now spans 120+ collections and distribution into 35 countries, with roughly 250 million square feet of annual manufacturing capacity supporting North American programs. Distributors still settle finish schedules early—before value engineering can erase the warmth that made the concept compelling. We remain Lexington, KY based in spirit of partnership: approachable experts who talk PEI class, VOC emissions letters, and grout color with equal care.

Limits we state openly: certificate scopes are SKU-specific; large-format modules still fail when substrates are out of flatness tolerance; and recycled content percentage on one line never substitutes for another SKU’s documentation during LEED narratives. Those boundaries keep Florida Tile conversations credible for homeowners and commercial teams alike.

“Tile should invite people in. Performance specs matter, but so does the way light catches a glaze at breakfast.”

Design leadership, Florida Tile

Values

How we show up for every project conversation

Warm expertise

We explain water absorption, DCOF, and PEI without jargon walls so homeowners and architects leave with clarity.

Honest aesthetics

Trend inspiration is filtered through installability—shade variation, joint width, and lighting reality stay in the room.

Responsible materials

Selected collections support recycled content and GREENGUARD Gold pathways for indoor air quality narratives.

Local partnership

Dealer relationships keep samples and lot advice close to the jobsite climate where the tile will live.

Community design workshop with tile samples

Design workshops that demystify tile choices

Regional partners host look-and-feel sessions where families compare stone-look porcelain under warm LED versus cool daylight. Those sessions reduce returns caused by shade surprises and help remodelers set realistic grout and maintenance expectations before demolition starts.

Apprentices learning tile installation techniques

Installer education for large-format success

When formats grow, mortar coverage and substrate flatness become the quiet heroes of a beautiful floor. We support training that covers lippage control, movement joints, and wet-area detailing so Florida Tile installations stay as inspired as the board presentation.

Background: a Gulf Coast dealer network saw lippage callbacks rise when 24×48 modules landed on uneven renovations. Process: 2023–2024 workshops focused on flatness tolerances, coverage percentages, and movement joint spacing before glaze conversations. Result: participating crews reported fewer first-year lippage claims and clearer handoffs between designers who pick shade and installers who own the substrate.
